Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has added shanks for internal coolant supply without hose and external turning heads for ISO inserts to the Indexable Head Type Quick Change Tool Holder APM series for Small Lathes and Autolathes, which will be sequentially launch for sales beginning Monday, October 20, 2025.

CNC autolathes equipped with gang-type toolposts are widely used in small parts machining and there is a growing need for simplified operation to reduce tool change time, which is a major factor in productivity, and to improve operator safety.

In order to respond to these needs, our company has expanded the lineup of Indexable Head type Quick Change Holder APM series, launched for sale in May 2024, to include shanks supporting coolant supply without hose that is compatible with various machine manufacturers' specifications, and external turning heads for ISO insert (left-handed, straight edged, 12mm-square negative type inserts).

Internal coolant supply, which improves chip evacuation and suppresses insert wear, typically uses piping hoses, however, this product supports coolant supply without hose, thus eliminating the need for piping setup and prevents entanglement of chips around hoses.

In addition, external turning heads for ISO inserts that enabes back turning and taper turning, as well as heads that uses negative type inserts with many corners are now available.

1. High repeatability and rigidity
Polygon taper-shaped fitting part and high-precision manufacturing achieve cutting edge repeatability accuracy within 5μm during head replacement (excludes individual insert variations)
In addition, vibration and machined surface quality equivalent to integrated type tools can be achieved.

2. Diverse lineup
Shank sizes of 10x10mm, 12x12mm, and 16x16mm are available to support various CNC autolathes, with heads for various turning operations including front turning, back turning, grooving, threading, and cut-off.

3. Internal coolant supply without hose
Shank coolant ports are compatible with various machine manufacturers' specifications, supporting a variety of CNC autolathes. The internal coolant supply port on the head's rake face side breaks chips into small pieces to achieve excellent chip control.
